At Monica & Trym's home in Norway – a bright oak kitchen by the sea

Close to the sea and with light flowing in through large windows, Monica and Trym have created a home where architecture, materials, and everyday life meet in perfect balance. In their carefully renovated 60s house in Hafrsfjord, the kitchen is the center – an open, social room in light oak from our design series Flat Oak. Join us in Stavanger and take part in their journey from planning to finished kitchen, and their experiences ordering fronts from Sweden to Norway.

At home with Monica & Trym in Hafrsfjord
Within walking distance to the sea, light from large window sections, and a carefully but thoroughly renovated 60s house, we find this kitchen in Madla, Stavanger. Here live Monica and Trym, who in recent years have given the house new life – respecting the original feeling but adapted for a modern way of living.
We wanted the kitchen to be a jewel in the house – and we really think it has become that.
From the 60s to open spaces
The house, originally built in the 1960s, had a more traditional layout with separate rooms. During the renovation, Monica and Trym chose to make extensive changes: walls were taken down and the kitchen, dining area, and living room were opened up into a connected space. The result is a social and airy home where the light takes center stage.

Large new window sections frame the surroundings and let in a soft, Nordic daylight that enhances the material choices and color scheme of the house.
A kitchen in light oak – Flat Oak
The kitchen features a light and harmonious color scheme where the wood is the focus. The choice fell on oak and our design series Flat Oak, which with its clean expression and distinct wood texture gives the kitchen a timeless and calm look.

The kitchen planning was done in IKEA’s planning tool, which gave Monica and Trym the opportunity to test different solutions and functions at their own pace. When the layout was finalized, all fronts were ordered from us, customized for IKEA Metod frames.

Customers in Norway
We have the pleasure of working with many customers in Norway who have found us and chosen our solid wood fronts for their homes. Monica and Trym are one of many examples of how our kitchens also take place beyond Sweden’s borders – something we are both proud and grateful for.
Bucks and Spurs are experienced in sales to Norway and could answer everything we wondered about regarding shipping and VAT when ordering. That made the process very secure and we avoided all surprises along the way.
Conversation with Monica & Trym

We asked Monica and Trym a few questions about the journey from idea to finished kitchen:
How did you find us?
When we were choosing a kitchen, we looked at several options where many suppliers felt very highly priced in relation to what you got. Then we started exploring the possibility of buying frames and interiors from IKEA, combined with more exclusive fronts. Through Google searches and Instagram, we found fronts from Bucks and Spurs who deliver very nice fronts in oak veneer for IKEA kitchens – and above all exactly the look we were after.
How did you experience the contact with us, and that the communication was conducted in Swedish?
Communication with Bucks and Spurs was as easy as if it had been a Norwegian supplier. We experienced very good service during the planning process and all the way through to delivery.
What was your first impression when the kitchen doors were delivered?
We were very excited because we had only seen pictures and a few small samples beforehand. When we unpacked the fronts, we were pleasantly surprised by the finish and quality feel. We especially liked the handle strips in solid oak, which give an exclusive expression.

How did you experience the assembly – did the installation go as planned and were there any challenges?
The assembly went surprisingly smoothly, just as easily as if the fronts had been delivered together with frames from IKEA. The fronts were numbered and came with a kitchen drawing showing exactly where each front should be placed. Placement is important because the fronts are made from the same veneer, so the wood grain continues from one drawer to the next drawer front below.
When everything was assembled, we discovered that some fronts between two tall cabinets should not have had handle strips, as the cabinet doors next to them hit them when opened. We contacted Bucks and Spurs who solved it by sending new fronts without handle strips completely free of charge. At the same time, we took the opportunity to order a longer cover panel for the countertop’s end, as we realized we preferred a long continuous side rather than a baseboard at the bottom.
What are you most satisfied with in the kitchen today? Did the result turn out as you had imagined?
We wanted the kitchen to be a jewel in the house – and we really think it has become that. The fronts fit incredibly well with our home and the surfaces give an exclusive impression. Everyone who visits compliments us on the kitchen. Several friends and acquaintances have also bought similar fronts afterwards.
Do you have any tips for others in Norway who are considering ordering a kitchen from Sweden?
We can truly recommend fronts from Bucks and Spurs. We constantly receive comments on how beautiful our kitchen is, and with such great service, there is no hesitation. Bucks and Spurs are experienced in sales to Norway and could answer everything we wondered about regarding shipping and VAT when ordering. This made the process very secure and we avoided any surprises along the way.
